Every illustration in a Kinolit book is a result of the work of experienced art directors, storyboarders, digital artists, graphic designers and other art specialists based in Europe and North America, primarily Canada, Germany, Ukraine and Spain. Each edition contains 30-200 full-page illustrations and represents hundreds, sometimes thousands, of hours of dedicated human work. Images are conceived, storyboarded, drafted and redrafted, then painted with attention to detail and continuity across the whole book.

Depending on the title and art style, we may use AI-assisted tools, primarily at two stages of this process. During rendering, they can add detail and texture to initial storyboarded concepts developed by our artists. During retouching/refinement, they help correct or enhance specific areas of an image. For these tasks, we use a combination of tools, primarily our own custom-developed workflows via ComfyUI, alongside commercial tools like Adobe Firefly. Our artists direct the process with substantial control and judgment alongside extensive manual adjustments.

We introduce new tools only after testing them against our artistic standards. The purpose is to make more ambitious illustrated books that help people fall in love with reading, not to replace the artists who create them. We use only our own artwork as image input and do not prompt models to imitate the styles of other artists. Where possible, we favor models trained on licensed data and/or open-source models locally.
